Highlights of the
new Shaikh Isa National Library, Juffair:

  • initial collection of 70,000 books, which will eventually be increased to 250,000
  • four large reading halls with Bluetooth connection, he added

  • an American Corner, which features 2,000 books donated by the American Embassy
  • video conference facility
  • a children’s library and a music library as well as an audiovisual library
  • special services to disabled people. Blind people will be trained in the Braille system
  • an electronic library that will store CDs of books and periodicals
  • a mini conference hall with a seating capacity of 400 people
  • a 1,000-seat hi-tech hall
  • 14 language interpretation services
  • an Islamic museum
  • an archive of artefacts belonging to the late Amir, Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa

“We are equipping the library in such a way that it would be one of the most advanced public libraries in the region,” said Dr Sarhan.
