“New text reader to improve student access to electronic books
Bookshare.org will soon offer qualified students with reading disabilities free access to a text reader so they can listen to as many as 36,000 electronic books and periodicals read aloud. Thanks to a $32 million federal grant, the site plans to add more than 100,000 new materials to its collection in the next five years.”
Pass it on!

Follow-up RSS Comments Feed or Leave a TrackbackThough the new software will represent a wonderful addition to the excellent program already provided by Bookshare, please keep in mind that the program has been serving the blind, visually impaired and others with print reading disabilities since 2002. There are over 36,000 electronic books available right now in Grade II Braille, DAISY and HTML format. The DAISY books include a .html file readable in any web browser. HumanWare’s Victor Reader Soft is also available free of charge as a download for Bookshare members. All K-12 and many adult students may now qualify for free Bookshare membership. I am a proud Bookshare member and volunteer since 2002, and I just can’t imagine anyone with a print disability going without this valuable addition to their digital lives!
