In the summer of 2007 there was a lot of discussion in the news about the Atlanta Journal-Constitution eliminating the book editor position held by Teresa Weaver. They were also seriously considering doing away with Book Reviews all together. Try to find the Book Reviews on their Website! It is hidden away in the Arts section. (A Google search on the news)
Art Winslow calls it The New Book Burning . Winslow gives examples of other newspapers doing the same thing as the Atlanta paper is doing.
Todd Leopold, CNN.com Entertainment Producer issued an article called, “Who reads books anymore? It’s not easy getting people to care about books.”
It is unlikely that you or I will be able to subscribe to many out of town newspapers so please allow me to at least promote a few newspaper online book pages in hopes that they will live on! Do you have a favorite?
